Heading off for a few days

Postby beaujest4 » Tue Sep 02, 2014 9:32 am

Yep camper is packed, 80 is packed and we are heading off for a few days of R & R. Should be good. Meet up with Kenny on the way and Scrubbie when we get there. What could possibly go wrong with that.

Trip report in a few days time.
Cheers Al

Well didn't I jinx myself.

If it could go wrong it did go wrong.

Nothing too major just a ripe pain to ruin what had potential to be a good few days way at Georges Junction, about 95 kms west of Kempsey at the Junction of the Macleay River and Georges Creek. Tops spot. Photos and report to follow.

The plan was simple. Meet up with Scrubbie at Georges Junction. Georges Junction is about 95km west of Kempsey on the Kempsey - Armidale Road at the junction of Georges Creek and the Macleay River. Pretty easy task really. I just had to jinx myself and make the comment about what could go wrong. Doh.

Scrubbie and his young bloke had been out west and on their way back home. Kenny and Marg decided to join us, meeting us at Urunga and travel down with us.

So what went wrong. Nothing much really. A prang. A cable shorting out. Hail while setting up camp. One side of bed in the camper was drenched. Dog nearly bitten by a snake.

Just one of those trips I guess.

Not many photos from the first day

Anyhow all packed up and ready to go.

After sorting out the wiring we made our way to the next crossing. The first river crossing was OK the second was a bit deep.

Well after watching Shane float around we decided camp back in the last clearing. So we setup a life line for Shane just in case he got stuck coming back over.

We set up an equalizing strap and snatch strap on the pack of my camper and reversed into the river ready.

After Scrubbie having a little bit of difficulty at the second river crossing we decided to go back to the last clearing and set up camp. It is always good when halfway through the set up it starts to rain and then the rain turns to hail. Was only the small hail but hail none the less. I guess this made setting up camp a bit of a quick option and maybe not on the flattest of ground. Doesn't matter, the stool will help level off the kitchen.
