Mrs B's Cauldron

After many years of putting up tents, a while back now we bought a Cub Camper Vactioner. Just the bare bones basics, with no extras, with the intentions of modifying it to our needs.

Part of the deal was that we could tow it with Mrs B's Broomstick, the Grand Vitara. This is when we picked it up and with the upturn gooseneck it wasn't too bad a fit.

Sits a lot better on the back of the Hilux

With touring and trips in mind for it the first thing was to put some bar work on it. Not the normal bar work. With help from Kenny Koala we added some bars across the top of the rack to give some tie down points when needed

With the Gloucester meet and greet coming up and from there heading down to Newnes with Kenny Koala we had to do a few more things to the camper. The plan has always been to put a slide out kitchen and pantry across the front of the camper, which means putting a raised platform in the camper for the bed, which will also give some storage area underneath the bed.

Anyhow this is what it looks like before I started

The idea is to turn this timber into a raised platform

Image

Begin with a bit of frame work

Place the frame work out for a fitout

Place the first board on the frame work and it seems to work

Have to go to town tomorrow and get some screws and glue and see what more I can get down. The boxed in area will eventually house the slide out kitchen and pantry that will open onto the passenger side. The lid height will be part of the base of the bed. Will just have to get some steel to make as a frame work under the bed base to hold my mass without falling through.

Did a bit more this morning.

Just a rough fit out to see how and where things will fit. Had my first tape measure cutting malfunction. Blamed the heat and went for lunch after fixing it.

The sides will come down about so far and the middle section will be hinged in the middle for a lift up section to get stuff and in and out easier. Well that's the plan.

Well done Al, should be a bewdy when it's finished. Not that it's not a bewdy now, you know what I mean.

Got the fit out pretty well finished, just a few loose ends at the foot of the bed base to sort out. Then take it all out, finish the ends off and put it all back together a bit more securely then just balancing there.
