Kia sportage custom bullbar

Postby slidin sportage » Wed May 06, 2015 4:57 pm

Hey guys I've got a 97 kia sportage and want to put a bullbar on it but I want to get a steel bullbar which currently isn't available so I was thinking of getting a steel bullbar from another vehicle and making some brackets but need to know what cars have a similar width to the kia sportage.

My concern would be the extra weight for the Kia

Yeah im gonna look at getting a steel bumper made up as I really just need a solid place to mount a winch.

You can get the winch cradle and make an alloy bar to fit

Would an alloy bar be strong enough to hold a winch under load

A winch cradle just holds the winch and mounts back to chassis, the bar is mounted over/around the cradle and has not load placed upon it when the winch is used, that is all taken up with the cradle.

Similar to this (was the first on google list)

You could do just a winch mount and modify a plastic original bumper around it

Or build yourself a front towbar and use one of these. this way it can be used back and front but you would have to carry it in the vehicle (only problem)

Thanks heaps for all the info/pics, it has made my options much clearer, the winch behind a stock bar looks interesting and cheapest and lightest option. Thanks
